Sumner County

Sumner County

County History and Information:
Sumner County was established in 1786 and is the second-oldest county in Tennessee. It was named after Revolutionary War figure Jethro Sumner. Horace Lawson Hunley of Sumner County designed and built at least three submarines during the Civil War, including the H.L. Hunley, which was the first submarine ever to sink an enemy warship. Many country music stars have called Sumner County home, including Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Barbara Mandrell and The Oak Ridge Boys. Trinity Music City USA, home of the Christian Trinity Broadcasting Network, is also located in Sumner County.
