Clay County

County History and Information:
The Tennessee General Assembly created Clay County on June 16, 1870 and it was named after Henry Clay, a Senator from Kentucky who was U.S. Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829. Clay County’s Dale Hallow Lake holds the world record for being home to the largest Smallmouth Bass ever caught. Obey River, which is below Dale Hollow Dam, also holds state records for producing the largest the Rainbow Trout and German Brown Trout.
